WILL DOWRY SYSTEM EVER END?

I am again posting on this alarming problem today. Take sometime to read it and think it over.

Mentality of bride groom and his family, its like my son is officer in some abc company, so I want 10 lacs, 15 lacs etc.. My son is government employ so I want 10 lacs. This seems like according to the quality of the boy, money is demanded as if he is a thing to sell. No money, no marriage. And what is the guarantee that if they get desired amount of money, they will not torture the girl? And also the girl should be beautiful educated and perfectly working otherwise the dowry amount will increase.

Now talking about the females’ family, I have seen most of them saying “bina dahej ke kahi shaadi hoti hai” (there cannot be any marriage without dowry). If they are asked to raise their voice against this, they say, “acha!! Iske baad hamari ladki se kaun shaadi karega? Badnaam thodi na karna hai ladki ko? Aise to saari zindagi aise hi rah jayegi”. (Well!! Who will marry our daughter after this? We are not meant to disgrace her! She will be single whole life). Just because of this they get ready to pay lacs of money to the bride groom’s family. There is a notion that girl’s family should tolerate all the bad things. They have to spend all the money. If they do not pay dowry and raise their voice against this, no one will marry their daughter and she will be single her whole life. And yes, this actually happens in many cases. When someone tries to raise his/her voice against this, instead of supporting, the society blames him/her and a bad notion about the family is created in everyone’s’ mind. Even the families who have daughters, they also do not support thinking that it will affect their daughter’s wedding.

That boys who writes a big article on “being against dowry system” in an IAS exam demands 10 lakhs dowry because he is an IAS officer. It does not matter if the girl is perfectly working or educated. All he needs is money.

Is this thing right? Paying money and not raising your voice against this? In this way we are just encouraging the dowry seekers. We should give it a start for sure because it will never end until we don’t try.
